Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server 2003 and Windows SharePoint Services address a variety of information sharing and collaboration needs, providing an innovative way for people to work together and manage information. In order to get the most out of SharePoint, you need to understand how to use the capabilities it provides to create materials, collaborate with others, and share enterprise information.
SharePoint 2003 User's Guide is designed to provide you with the information you need to effectively use these tools. For those using SharePoint as a collaboration platform, you will learn how to use the portal, site, library, list and searching tools that make up this environment. Information owners will be given the knowledge they need to manage these SharePoint resources in order to build and manage effective collaboration and information sharing solutions.
This book is broken down into two sections. The first section walks you through the components and capabilities that make up a SharePoint environment. We provide step-by-step instructions for using and managing these elements, as well as recommendations for how to best leverage them. The second section describes many of the most common business solutions created through SharePoint. We describe the challenges these solutions are designed to address and the benefits that can be received by using them. We also construct sample solutions and walk you through them.
We have designed this book to make it easy for all levels of SharePoint users, from information consumers to information managers, to gain the knowledge they need to make the most out of SharePoint technologies. We have brought together this information based on our experience working with these tools and working with business users who are effectively leveraging these technologies within their organizations.
